Hair transplant

Discreet hair transplant service

Hair transplants are now invisible. We focus on restoring the hair you have, and adding volume to it. In the first instance, we will look at all possible causes of hair loss, with a view to treating the condition holistically. Then we’ll switch our focus to your treatment. Minoxidil, food supplements, and scalp PRP are all very valuable treatments we use frequently here at our Devonshire clinic, with great success rates.

Scalp PRP treatment involves Platelet rich plasma (PRP) which is a remarkable natural biostimulant used in medicine for more than fifty years. Its usefulness in the treatment of androgenic alopecia has only received broad recognition in the last five years. Blood is taken in the usual way, spun down using a centrifuge, the fraction of the blood which is the PRP is removed. It contains growth factors and stem cells. Using a vibrating handpiece, the PRP is administered to the scalp almost painlessly. It feels something like a massage and takes about 40 minutes. Scalp hair is generally boosted by about 20% by a single treatment, and the effect is long-lasting. More than one treatment will bring better improvement than a single treatment, but a single treatment is far better than no treatment at all.

A common form of hair loss is alopecia diffusa. The potential reasons are many (iron deficiency, thyroid deficiency, the contraceptive pill, polycystic ovarian syndrome and stress to mention a few). It is important to identify and correct the underlying cause in each particular patient. In young women the common cause of poor hair is iron deficiency due to insufficient dietary replacement (dark meat and liver) for menstrual loss.

In some people, the immune system is so powerful that it not only protects the person from infection and cancer but it also makes the mistake of fighting the hair. The most common autoimmune disorder to affect hair is alopecia areata. This leads to bald patches on the scalp and beard and other sites. It may in some cases be one manifestation of a spectrum of other autoimmune conditions that are commonly linked together. Injections can usually control this type of hair loss substantially.

Scarring alopecia can be caused by unfavourable hair styling. Identification and treatment of the cause is essential, because it’s also symptomatic of autoimmune conditions.
