BROWN SPOTS ON YOUR FACE CAN RESULT FROM LONG-TERM SUN EXPOSURE

London Dermatology | 4 December 2024

As people age, they frequently develop brown or dark spots on their skin, particularly on their hands and cheeks. The conditions we are discussing here are also known as liver spots, sun spots, age spots, or solar lentigines. These spots are brought on by ageing and sun exposure, as their names suggest. Crucially, these patches are not to be mistaken with melanomas, freckles, melasma, or moles.

The fact that sun spots and age spots show up in places that have received a lot of sun exposure sets them apart from other brown spots. For people who are prone to sun/age spots, they often begin to show up around the age of thirty, mainly on the face at first.

Brown spots are often stubborn and difficult to get rid of. Dermatologists and cosmetic doctors have several techniques at their disposal to eliminate them. One of these methods is called cryotherapy. Although more well known for burning warts than eradicating brown spots, cryotherapy is a an ancient and relatively simple method.

Brown spots on the temples, cheeks and hands are disfiguring and almost everybody wants to be rid of them. But it is even more important to recognize their cause and to exclude skin cancer.

In our clinic we have all these treatments, including cryo, IPL, peels and creams and, together with you, we can choose the most suitable treatment for you.

We can do all this for you easily. Over three visits, a cold spray (cryotherapy) can be used to clear away brown spots. Our doctors can begin treatment for you already at the first diagnostic consultation. Alternatively, IPL (a form of light treatment) or mild peelings or even cream can be used to achieve clearance.
